With a pencil and a protractor, divide the larger disc into 30-degree wedges to create 12 center lines for the bottle indents. Center and trace the smaller disc on top of the larger disc. Next, with a drill press, drill 3/8-in.-deep holes on the 12 center lines with the 1-7/8-in. Forstner bit, spacing them between the disc’s outer edge and the traced circle. Next, divide the smaller disc into 60-degree wedges and drill six more 3/8-in.-deep holes with the Forstner bit.

Whether your work area is a dedicated shop or a temporary cleared space in the basement or garage safety has to be the number one concern. There was one crack which required stabilization to prevent further splitting. On an old piece of wood there is nothing more beautiful than a contrasting butterfly inlay to lock the pieces together. Alternatively you could glue and clamp the split, however it is hard to get enough glue into the crack and an inlay looks much better. I used a piece of bloodwood and an inlay jig on my router for the butterfly. This was the first time I've tried inlay and it was very easy. While the butterfly is beautiful & interesting, it acts functionally as 2 opposing wedges to prevent the crack from widening. The last pic shows the finished product.
You can make this table with a budget of around $100 from solid wood which makes the table extremely sturdy and durable. The inspiration was drawn from Restoration Hardware Provence table, and Anna White provides this plan with a little twist. The project is very easy to complete from 2x4s. 4x4s are difficult to find and also expensive. Moreover, you will find it difficult to cut and join 4x4s tending to warp.

Hybrid saws are essentially built like the old contractor saws, but with the motor in the cabinet, just like a cabinetmaker saw. They are much cheaper than cabinetmakers saws and not as heavy. The saw at left is my first table saw, a 40-year old contractor saw, which I enclosed on the bottom to keep the sawdust inside. At present, I use a hybrid table saw

Per usual, I used pocket screws to fasten the table top together after applying glue to the edges. Pic 3 shows the underside of the table. A straight edge clamp and a circular saw were used to trim the ends of the top. The blue masking tape helps limit splintering from the saw. To see if the table was square, I compared the diagonal measurements across the table top. Diagonal measurements on a square or rectangle should be equal if the piece is square on all corners. It's not very critical on a rustic, distressed table since the table's charm comes from it's imperfections.
Great story and not at all boring. I found a belt sander can be used cross grain to flatten things out. A straight edge and pencil to mark high spots, and more sanding - keep the sander moving always and repeat as necessary. It is possible to get things amazingly flat this way. I'll do that and follow up with a light dusting of blue chalk line chalk in an old sock to highlight the scratches. Progressively smaller grits and sanding with the grain and chalk in between. When no more scratches show with the blue chalk it should be getting pretty smooth. In automotive work this would be called a "dry guide coat". Same idea, similar (but different) product.

Next, make your breadboard top out of four 2×8's and 1 2×10. Ana's plans call for all 2×10's, but I wanted to use 2×8's because they are easier to work with. I don't have a photo of the process, but if you go to the 11:18 mark on the video below you can see the process involved with attaching the top boards. You will need a Kreg Jig and 2.5″ Kreg screws for this process. Once the top is assembled, center it on the base and attach to the base from unnderneath. Use 4.5″ screws to connect the 4×4's to the top and 2 or 2.5″ screws to anchor the top to the 2×4 horizontal boards.
In the grand scheme of history, power woodworking tools are a very recent innovation. However, it is hard to imagine modern woodworking without the use of power tools. That being said, one doesn't need a shop full of expensive woodworking machines to be an effective woodworker. When building a workshop, there are seven power tools to focus on first:
So I thought this would be the perfect project to try out my new sprayer on and, I’m telling you, friends…LIFE CHANGING. I mean, I’ll be honest, there is a learning curve to spray painting. There were some spots that I got a little too much paint and spots I didn’t quite get enough the first couple coats. But, even with my amateur skills, this still saved me hours of time and looked WAY better than if I had brush painted.

Use a band saw or jigsaw to cut a slot along one edge (with the grain) that’s a smidgen wider than the shelf thickness. Stop the notch 3/4 in. from the other edge. Finish the bookend and slide it on the shelf. Want to build the shelves, too? We’ve got complete plans for great-looking shelves here.
