Because these legs were salvaged they had old screw holes in them which were filled prior to painting.  In retrospect, it probably would have looked cool to just leave them.  I lightly sanded the legs with 100 & 150 grit sandpaper which smoothed them without removing all the saw marks.  One coat of chalk paint and 2 coats of clear Briwax was used to finish the legs.  Briwax yellows the finish a bit which aged the paint nicely.  Between coats of Briwax I sanded through the paint on some of the edges with 100 grit paper to show wear.

I am working on a range of traditional handmade oak furniture in kit form. At the moment I am limiting it to a ‘Joined’ or ‘Coffin’ stool together with a table version. I have created a website http://www.oakits.co.uk with a link to an instruction video on YouTube. There has been a lot of interest here in the U.K. but I’m wondering if there may be a market for them in the U.S. Your comments would be greatly appreciated

Getting started in woodworking can seem like a daunting task. From specialty woodworking tools to identifying and understanding the different types of wood, there is so much to know that even the old-timers are still developing. But learning and experimenting are what woodworking is all about. Get started on the right foot with some essential basics about safety, tools, lumber, and traditional layout and measuring techniques.
Methods for skinning a cat have nothing on ways to build a bench. Explore different joinery methods and work with those that you are able to complete the best. Don't overcomplicate something when it doesn't need to be. There's a reason tools have improved, glue has gotten better, fasteners stronger, and new joinery methods have been introduced. A lot of the time the focus in woodworking is on finding shortcuts to get the same or better results. Don't let joinery snobs influence you.
There's no better way to give thanks than to gather family and friends around an enormous table to share a feast. A farmhouse table would be the perfect spot. You could make one out of construction lumber and ordinary hardware in a couple of days. We're not talking precision woodworking here. If you can handle a circular saw and a chisel, you can do this. Farmers used to build these tables themselves, not furniture makers or carpenters, so it's okay if it turns out a bit rustic. That's half the fun. The other half is sitting down to eat at a table you built yourself.
Don't believe the mainstream thinking that hand tools are irrelevant, too slow to be useful, or less effective than power tools. Ignore, or at least take with a grain of salt, the power tool devotees who will say "There's a reason they invented power tools, ya know!" Your "shop" is a bench attached to the inside of a coat-closet door in a one-room studio apartment right now. Power tools are going to bother that nice med student next door, and that closet shop doesn't have any ventilation for the amount of dust you'll produce. Hand tools can be more efficient (in speed, quick access, storage, and lack of set up), they're quieter, and the pleasure of silence afforded by quiet hand tools--just a few soft noises produced by your tools--is a pleasure not to be overlooked. They're portable and will move with you, you'll learn more about how different types of wood behave, and, when you run into one of those power tool zealots, just go over to Todd's house and watch a few episodes of The Woodwright's Shop to get your respect for hand tools back in check.
Build your own furniture, a dream of many but a reality for few. In this video I show you how I make farm tables. This is one made for a customer for a new house. It's 10 feet long and made from red oak, sawn from a dead standing tree. The base is made from spruce and yellow pine. It is constructed with mortise and tenon joints, using a hollow chisel mortiser and a tenon jig I made for the table saw.
I have been involved one way or another with woodworking for the last six decades, it began when I was about ten years old, my father built me a jigsaw by modifying an old Briggs and Stratton engine. Looking back I don't believe it cost him anything more than the price of a few welding rods to give me hours of entertainment cutting doodads out of apple box wood. The last three have been limited due to health reasons but I still do small projects when necessary.
This wooden sofa side table can also be made in different sizes and shapes as you can find on the internet. Some of the items you will need for this project are wooden pieces, cutter, screws, etc. We have included a video tutorial here that illustrates the process of building a wooden sofa side table. This is not the exact one that you see in the image above, but it can be modified to build any shape or design you want. The video tutorial also has English subtitles to make it easy for anyone to understand and follow the steps.
The best thing about the toy chest is that it is very easy to build. All you need is the basic understanding of woodworking and a few tools to get started. You can also modify your kid’s toy chest in any way you want or build in a different design or color different from the one pictured above. You can try some other designs for your plan in the below-mentioned link.

I love this barnwood reclaimed table-your husband did a beautiful job! We have a coffee table and two end tables (hand-me-downs) that remind me a little of this table. They each have metal legs that have criss-cross metal bars that make shelves below, and are great for holding baskets. The tops of each were pretty rough when we inherited the tables, and lately I’ve been thinking about either sanding and then white-washing the wood, and now after seeing your pictures I’m thinking more about just sanding the tops and see how they look and maybe finishing them like you did your table!? (I think I like your idea better! How many coats of Varathane did you folks use?) Thank you so much for sharing!

This is another very simple and traditional farmhouse table which is extremely strong and durable with no wobbling. Also, from the very look of the table, you can understand that this project will be very to make. This plan has been inspired by Ana White’s DIY plan and modified by DIYPete making the design a unique one. The two benches make the table look simpler and also provide ample seating capacity.

Often when working with wood, after cutting it up and drilling holes the surface will be unfinished with unsightly burs and splinters. This is a simple fix with a quick sanding, but with a seemingly endless amount of types and grits of sandpaper and sanding equipment this can get confusing. The main types of sanders we’ll cover are belt sanders, orbit sanders, and hand sanders.
The most useful stationary tools are a drill press and a table saw. For the longest time, I only had a cheap old contractor saw, and only a very small drill press, but I made do with those. The difference between a good drill press and a cheap drill press is much smaller than the difference between a cheap drill press and no drill press, so don't wait until you can afford the perfect one.
This woodshop photo is the outdoor Florida woodshop of Woodworking Guide Chris Baylor. This woodshop photo shows a portable miter saw stand, temporary shop table consisting of a pair of sawhorses with plywood as a table top, a contractor table saw and band saw on portable bases, and an Adirondack loveseat glider rocker that is a current woodworking project in progress.

By video tutorial, you will get step by step process instructions of making a nice wooden folding sling chair from scratch. However, my first wooden chair was not the best one, but it was good enough to motivate me to make some more folding chairs like this one. If I can make this, you too can make one yourself. You can browse the internet for more folding sling chairs ideas and start making one now.

From my point of view, I think this is really a different project because normally you will find only one wooden item like a chair, or a table, but in this project, you will find two wooden items. The combination of table and chair is really beneficial for me. I wanted to try something different project from my daily routine life and here in this image, you will find the full-size image of this project so you came to know that I am successful in making chair plus table project.

These things may be tiny in size, but building one is not that easy. It takes some serious woodworking knowledge and skill to build a nice wooden toy house. When I first saw one online, I just couldn’t resist thinking of buying one. But when I saw the price, I was forced to rethink. Also, a woodwork lover like me cannot be contained with just one piece and I was not willing to spend on more than one. So instead I decided to build myself one. Yes, it took some doing, but the final result was satisfying. Luckily, I found this awesome tutorial online that helped me build my first ever wooden house.
In this month’s woodworking project demonstration, George Vondriska teaches you the step-by-step process for building a coat tree that will look great in your home or workshop. He demonstrates the simple techniques for installing wrought-iron hooks, crafting the coat tree’s feet, and quarter sawing to achieve that beautiful face grain on all four sides.

Once the backings are connected, you can append the 4×4 leg runners. In the event that you have a Kreg HD, then you can simply penetrate 3 1/2″ stash gaps into the 4×4's. If not, you can simply connect them with 3 1/2″ Spax screws from the front countenances of the legs into the runners. You can conceal the screw openings, with the equipment, toward the end.

Here is a look at the completed table prior to staining and sealing the piece. I also created matching benches to fit this table. The plans can be found by clicking here. I modified the width so they are a total of 69″ wide. Instead of using a 2×10 for the breadboards I use 2×8's. Everything else was kept the same as Ana's plans. The inside span of my table where the benches fit in is 73″ so that left 2 inches of wiggle room on each side of the bench so it can easily slide in and out.

Spread glue on the notched face of the short stretcher and the notched face of the leg, and press the pieces together. Make a counterbored hole through the leg's back and into the stretcher. Drive a 2½-inch coarse-thread pocket screw through the leg into the stretcher to lock the pieces together. To hide the hole, glue a dowel into it, trim it flush with a chisel, and sand it smooth.
If you are in need of a big farmhouse table, select this plan to build your own. Though not a traditional farmhouse table, it is beautiful in the outdoor living area making it ideal for guests. Also, as the table is big enough to suit any size of family, it makes it perfect for large families or when quite a few guests join you for lunch or dinner.

Nominal size means the dimension of the lumber “in name only.” In other words, the lumber is called a certain size, even though its true size is smaller. For example, a piece of lumber is called a 4x4 at the store, even though it is only 3 ½” x 3 ½” if you were to measure it with a ruler.http://www.familyhandyman.com/carpentry/making-sense-of-lumber-dimensions/view-all

With a little wood glue and imagination, painted 2”x2” wood pieces are topped with wooden balls and then dressed with fabric and a twig shepherd’s hook. A smaller wood block, peg, and fabric make the manger in this craft from The 36th Avenue. Place inside a paper-lined crate graced with a craft paper star, and the true meaning of Christmas will quickly come to life.
If you are looking for a simple design for making your farmhouse table where you can have additional space to make more people sit, this plan could be ideal for you. The benches give you this option to allow a few more people to squeeze in. This table fits excellently in your contemporary space. This plan can be executed by any beginner, and you are also provided with square sized table and benches.
Finally, a word on glues: You might want to do some experimenting with polyurethane glue instead of aliphatic resin (wood) glue. Polyurethane glues require a slightly different work flow, but since switching to polyurethane about 15 years ago, I can't see going back. I use aliphatic glues for some things (like biscuit joints) - but not very often. Polyurethane glues actually harden (aliphatic resins remain "liquid"), poly takes stain like wood (no bright areas where the stain wouldn't bond to the glue lines), poly doesn't dull tools or gum up sandpaper, poly is waterproof and can fill minor gaps. My favorite brand, so far, is Gorilla Glue.

You can now enjoy this stylish table having a drawerwith it. I have made such a square table. You can carry it anywhere for sitting like in the lawn or in the study room. It is actually very easy and interesting to make. Size, shape, design and number of drawers are according to your choice when you made it. You can take the benefit of carrying it. Have a look at the image to get the idea of making it. Surely you would enjoy having it.However, it is a bit difficult to make them, but not so much. I am very confident that you can create them easily.

After the second coat, I let the table dry completely. Then, I took a 400 grit sanding blog and quickly sanded the top surface and legs. This smooths out any bumps or dust that may have dried in the finish. After sanding, take a damp rag to clean off the sawdust. Lastly, use a clean rag and wipe a very thin 3rd coat on all of the parts you sanded. This will give the table a final shine. Let the table dry and air out for awhile.

Drawing inspiration from a round trestle table that was worth $3350, Rogue Engineer came up with their free DIY plan to make the table cheaper. Unexpectedly, you can make this excellent table for around $40. You may think that round tables are difficult to build, but if you have the proper tools and follow the instructions carefully as provided, you can actually make this table with ease.
Most importantly you need to began by tearing the majority of the 2×6 sheets to 5″ and the 2×4's to 3″. This is not an important stride but rather it makes for pleasant straight edges and permits to shroud the creases on the stout table legs that individuals frequently assembled. The arrangements depend on tearing these sheets so on the off chance that you don't tear them, make a point to change the estimations as needs be.
