Farm tables are those warm, rustic surfaces that draw inspiration from the original harvest tables found in American homes of the 18th and 19th centuries. Rather than being built by skilled and trained artisans, farm tables were assembled from large and rough planks of fir. Their construction valued sturdiness and utility over detail and refinery. Today, farm tables can bring a sense of antique charm to any home, complementing matched chairs and contemporary benches alike. Here are five DIY farmhouse table projects to inspire your next act of handyman prowess.

I just discovered your site and I’m enamored! You are truly gifted and I love your style. This post really spoke to me because 1. I have sons too 2. We are just about to re-do our kitchen table 3. I just wrote a whole post about our kitchen table on my website. I feel like the kitchen table really is a sacred place for family and it’s beautiful that you built yours together. If you want to read my kitchen table post, check it out at http://kirstenjoyhobbs.weebly.com/homemaker/the-kitchen-table-a-horror-story. Cheers 🙂
From day one you've wondered how can you be both a tree hugger and a woodworker, how you can respect nature while also using and working within nature (not roping all of it off limits), as Wendell Berry professes. In Illinois, there is a family-owned and run company called Horigan Urban Forest Products that dries and mills old-growth wood from trees felled in the Midwest's awesome spring tornado season, and summer and fall thunderstorms. There are many sources of wood like this all over the world, and sometimes they're more expensive, but old-growth wood is going to be.

You're going to connect the two leg–apron assemblies to the stretchers using cross lap joints. These are among the easiest and most forgiving of wood joints to make, and they're also quite sturdy. Mark the joint positions on the legs and stretchers. Start the half-lap joints on the legs by notching the two outside lines with a circular saw set to a depth of 1½ inches. Guide the saw using a triangular rafter square. Between the two outside cuts make a series of relief cuts spaced ⅛ inch apart (fig. 3). Then use a sharp chisel to chop away the waste (fig. 4). When you cut the half-lap joints on the short stretcher, set the saw's depth to 1⅜ inches deep. This will make the stretcher extend ⅝ inch past the surface of the leg when the table is finally assembled. The offset will give you a table that looks like it was built by a farmer rather than by West Elm. It'll look nice.
Initially I thought a wine rack would be a finicky project to create, with the necessity of holding the bottles at a certain angle, etc. However, this ended up being a quick, easy and fun build. The shape of the bottles lets them rest on the rack at the correct angle (which is really only important when you are going to let your wine age). The simplicity of the design also allows you to see the labels on the bottles.

There was one crack which required stabilization to prevent further splitting.  On an old piece of wood there is nothing more beautiful than a contrasting butterfly inlay to lock the pieces together.  Alternatively you could glue and clamp the split, however it is hard to get enough glue into the crack and an inlay looks much better.  I used a piece of bloodwood and an inlay jig on my router for the butterfly.  This was the first time I've tried inlay and it was very easy.  While the butterfly is beautiful & interesting, it acts functionally as 2 opposing wedges to prevent the crack from widening.  The last pic shows the finished product.
A good friend celebrated a milestone birthday this year, and since he’s a real wine afficionado, I wanted to give him a few very nice bottles of wine presented in a special way. I’ve seen expensive vintage wines sold in wooden presentation boxes, but I wanted to make something that’s well beyond the ordinary. So I designed a box that presents the wine bottles by “popping them up” as the lid is opened.
For my kitchen equipment, I think this is one of the best projects, which I never have seen before. A Wooden spoon is a really inspiring project for me because I can cook easily without any trouble. The charm of making spoon arrives when I found the wooden spoon in the market and there suddenly I think that I must try this. When I first see this spoon I really like to create it by myself. I think for me this is the great opportunity to make wood spoon because it is a different project to do. Here you can see the full image of the wooden spoon.
The first – and some say the most important choice in designing a dining table is size.  Since our tables are made-to-order we can offer a farmhouse table in any size, shape, style or color.  Do you need a 12 foot table, 72″ round pedestal table, a narrow 32″ wide trestle table, a 36″ high counter height table?  Large, long, narrow, small, square, round, oval tables.  All no problem.  We can make any of these and more.   Farmhouse tables are available as either new wood tables or old reclaimed wood.
The engineering involved in building this garden bench is pretty simple, and we have provided some links to get a full cut list and plans with photos to help you along the way. Additionally, to the stock lumber, you will need wood screws, barrel locks, and hinges to complete the table. A miter saw or hand saw is also extremely helpful for cutting down your stock to the correct angle and length.
The beauty of this project lies in the simplicity. All you need are 3 pieces of wood of your choice (though we must admit natural hardwoods will look incredible), sanding block, clamps, wood glue and finishing product. The hardest step of the whole tutorial is measuring – as always, measure 9 times, cut once! You wouldn’t want to finish your project and then realize it doesn’t have enough space to fit your DVD player, would you?
This basic table from Instructables is also very easy to build, and also the benches are simple in design. If you are looking to make a simple table with many seating, you can consider making this table. However, the chairs would require some good carpentry skills or you can buy them separately. It is recommended to use kiln dried lumber which can be readily available at your home store. Check for the initials KD or HT to know the type of lumber to be used.

With a little woodworking knowledge and use of some basic items, you can build a wonderful tissue box holder of your own. You can easily build them in bulk and then sell at good rates. Although easy, a wooden tissue box is an equally important and useful item for households. You can also make wonderful variety of wooden boxes easily at home. It is actually very easy and interesting to make. These wooden items give a classy look to your interior furnishing. This is the easiest way to spice up your tables with beautiful wooden tissue boxes. By doing this you can give style to your table settings.

Furnishing and decorating your patio is not an easy task – but then again, it has to be done! Your patio is obviously one of the most important rooms in your home, as you can easily turn it into your little piece of Heaven, your “safe spot” in your home where you can retreat whenever you want to ignore the world and just spend some time alone all by yourself.

A luminaria (often called luminary) is a traditional Mexican lantern made from a paper bag with sand and a candle inside. We’ve add some woodworking panache to these outdoor accents and build our luminarias from wood, with box joints and a star-shaped cutout. They’re beautiful — and reusable — ways to brighten patios, steps and walkways this holiday season.
If you have limited space but want to have a full-sized farmhouse table, this table plan is perfect for you and is a gorgeous one. However, this plan requires some carpentry skills, and though it is designed to be thin, it has the capacity for seating six people. A metal pipe is attached to the inside of the legs reaching across the bottom which makes the table sturdy without any chance of wobbling. If you place contrasting chairs, the table looks even more splendid.
You can decorate your garden, terrace and corners of your house by stylish wooden hanging swings. These wooden items give a unique touch to your house. You can also make wonderful variety of wooden swings easily at home with the help of tutorials. It is actually very easy and interesting to make. You must know you should have a bit of woodwork skills to do this innovative and exciting work. All you need are a few pieces of wooden boards, wood cutter, electric drill, hammer, screws and plates. You can easily make these hanging swings by joining equal size wooden pieces. You can also do easily. This creative project is entertaining as well as good activity at the same time.
Spread glue on the notched face of the short stretcher and the notched face of the leg, and press the pieces together. Make a counterbored hole through the leg's back and into the stretcher. Drive a 2½-inch coarse-thread pocket screw through the leg into the stretcher to lock the pieces together. To hide the hole, glue a dowel into it, trim it flush with a chisel, and sand it smooth.

If you want to get into woodworking, a good project to tackle is building your own workbench. It's really not that hard. So if building your own workbench is a bit too much work, or too intimidating, then take a step back and examine whether you really want to get into woodworking. This may be different if your goal is to cut silhouettes of kittens out of plywood with a scrollsaw, but I wouldn't call that sort of activity "woodworking".

A wooden cutting board can be used in the kitchen for cutting purposes. You can see one in the image above. This wooden cutting board can be built by using wooden pallets from your house. You need only a few items to build this beautiful wooden cutting board. I suggest you to make more than one as they can be used anywhere in the house for many purposes. You can easily make it at home and use it for cutting different things in the kitchen. In addition, it adds a nice visual appeal to your kitchen. Make sure to use only high quality items for any woodworking project.

I can't really make good recommendations as to what specific brands of tools are better than others. Most of my tools were opportunistic purchases, with relatively little regard to specific brands. More often than not, it's price and a quick inspection to gauge the solidity of the tool that are the determining factors. My tools are usually not among the best that can be had, but good enough.

Jigsaws have a reciprocating blade, and are a great do-it-all saw which we use them quite often on our projects. They excel at making oddly shaped cuts and curves, but aren’t so great if you need perfectly straight cuts. Another advantage to jigsaws is that the blades are small, cheap, and interchangeable so that you can quickly swap between cutting different materials.
If you are searching a very stylish gift for your friends who are females, then your search ends here, as I am sharing a leaf shape jewelry box that is the most stylish one. I am sure your friends would love to have it. They can keep their jewelry in this box. You would not need any other box for keeping your essential items. If you would give it as a gift, your friends would surely love to have it. I am sharing some of the pictures of this jewelry box, just have a look at these pictures.
A nice thing about a bandsaw is that it's not scary to use. Sure, a bandsaw can cut your fingers off too, but it will probably cut your finger slow enough that you can pull it back before it's a major injury. I cut into my thumb with a bandsaw once when I was a kid. I pulled back as soon as I felt it, and the cut on my thumb wasn't even deep enough to warrant a band-aid. So if table saws scare you, get a bandsaw first.
