This table is designed to be gorgeous. The table might look challenging to build, but if you follow the plan, it is very easy. If you check Step 1, you will find that cutting the joints can be done quickly and a 4 x 4 X-leg can be built with lap joint. This provides stability and durability. Moreover, the herringbone top makes the table even more beautiful.
Summertime means loads of fun playing games outside with family and friends. We love to bring out yard games like Kubb, Croquet, and Danish Ball. My kids love to play the traditional Jenga. I thought it would be fun to make a giant sized version for the yard. The traditional Jenga pieces are 1.5 cm thick, 2.5 cm wide and 7.5 cm long, making the Giant Jenga pieces couldn't be … [Read more...]
I love this barnwood reclaimed table-your husband did a beautiful job! We have a coffee table and two end tables (hand-me-downs) that remind me a little of this table. They each have metal legs that have criss-cross metal bars that make shelves below, and are great for holding baskets. The tops of each were pretty rough when we inherited the tables, and lately I’ve been thinking about either sanding and then white-washing the wood, and now after seeing your pictures I’m thinking more about just sanding the tops and see how they look and maybe finishing them like you did your table!? (I think I like your idea better! How many coats of Varathane did you folks use?) Thank you so much for sharing!

Hand saws are a good option for making quick cuts that don’t need to be perfectly straight. They do take some muscle as they are non-powered, but are perfect for a quick job. The downside to hand-saws is you will need a different saw for each type of material you need to cut, so if you’re trying to cut wood and sheet metal, that’s an additional cost.
The video above includes a step-by-step tutorial for making a wooden toy house. By following these steps, you can easily make it by yourself. You will also need some basic woodworking items, such as wood, pop sticks, cutter, glue and screws, etc. Even if you do not like this one, you can always browse the internet for more beautiful wooden toy houses ideas. I have also shared a link where you can find some really interesting and beautiful wooden houses ideas for every kind. Just select the one you like the most and start building.
Because these legs were salvaged they had old screw holes in them which were filled prior to painting.  In retrospect, it probably would have looked cool to just leave them.  I lightly sanded the legs with 100 & 150 grit sandpaper which smoothed them without removing all the saw marks.  One coat of chalk paint and 2 coats of clear Briwax was used to finish the legs.  Briwax yellows the finish a bit which aged the paint nicely.  Between coats of Briwax I sanded through the paint on some of the edges with 100 grit paper to show wear.
Often when working with wood, after cutting it up and drilling holes the surface will be unfinished with unsightly burs and splinters. This is a simple fix with a quick sanding, but with a seemingly endless amount of types and grits of sandpaper and sanding equipment this can get confusing. The main types of sanders we’ll cover are belt sanders, orbit sanders, and hand sanders.

Scrollsaws are good for projects like cutting puzzles or silhouettes of cutesey animals out of wood. But for making furniture, scrollsaws just aren't up to the task. Scrollsaws, along with Dremel tools, do have their uses in crafts, but for woodworking, they are just a little too small. That said, Dremel tools are very useful for sharpening brad point drill bits, forstner bits, and bandsaw blades, so they do have a use in woodworking.

It's nice to be on your site getting plans and building projects.  I was so inspired by you I went out and bought Ryobi tools, and have since built 3 projects all on http://www.Ana-White.com/ by you.  I loved building the Potting Table, and better yet my Mother loved it when I gave it to her as a gift.  I am now working on the Farm House style Table and Benches.  I can't wait to see how they turn out!

From day one you've wondered how can you be both a tree hugger and a woodworker, how you can respect nature while also using and working within nature (not roping all of it off limits), as Wendell Berry professes. In Illinois, there is a family-owned and run company called Horigan Urban Forest Products that dries and mills old-growth wood from trees felled in the Midwest's awesome spring tornado season, and summer and fall thunderstorms. There are many sources of wood like this all over the world, and sometimes they're more expensive, but old-growth wood is going to be.

Sometimes Grandparents can be hard to buy gifts for, they seem to have everything already. But hey you can't go wrong with darling gifts of grand kids, right!?! In this post I'm going to share a couple of ideas for personalized photo gifts. To make the photo gifts, I will be using Photoshop Elements 2018. I have been using Photoshop Elements ever since I graduated from trying … [Read more...]
